Turkey blocks Dündar’s recently launched news website

An Ankara court has ruled to block ozguruz.org website, a German-based online news portal launched on Jan. 24 by exiled Turkish journalist Can Dündar.

The website was blocked only 2 days after it started to share news content.

“I was wondering when they would block it. Those who banned an unpublished book, blocked a website just to start… They think so… We will see… Tomorrow is another day,” Mr. Dündar tweeted on Thursday upon the blockade.

Özgürüz, which is established to publish stories in both Turkish and German, can now only be accessed by VPN users in Turkey.

Journalist Hayko Bağdat also criticized the ruling for censorship in a tweet he posted on Thursday.

“What is the crime here? The whole county is like father’s farm. Pity,” Mr. Bağdat tweeted.
