Kemal Gün, a 70-year-old man who was on a hunger strike to get the remains of his son, a militant of the far-left Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party/Front (DHKP/C) who was killed in an operation by the Turkish security forces, has ended his hunger strike on the 90th day of his protest after getting his son’s remains, dihaber news portal reported on Thursday.
Gün’s son Murat was among 11 DHKP/C militants who were killed in an air bombardment by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) in Tunceli last November.
Murat Gün’s remains reached Tunceli on Wednesday after they were sent by the İstanbul Council of Forensic Medicine a week ago by cargo. After talks with the Tunceli Governor’s Office, it was agreed that the remains would be buried in Tunceli’s Hozat district.
Making a statement in the Seyid Rıza Square where he had been on a hunger strike for 90 days, father Gün announced the end of his hunger strike.
“I got my son’s bones following a 90-day-long resistance. I am happy,” the father said.
Dihaber reported that father Gün, who has been suffering from various health problems due to the hunger strike, would be hospitalized immediately after a funeral ceremony for his son on Thursday. (turkishminute.com) May 25, 2017
