Germany’s immigration office has received asylum applications from 260 Turkish diplomatic passport holders and 508 “service passport” holders since the failed coup attempt on July 15, 2016, according to German media.
Turkish service passports are issued to senior public servants and their families.
In response to a parliamentary question, Germany’s Interior Ministry reportedly said hundreds of senior public servants and diplomats claimed refugee protection along with their family members and the number of such applications have reached to 768 in total as of November 20, 2017.
The ministry said more than half of such applicants have been granted protection so far. The number of Turkish citizens who fled Turkey following a failed coup last year and applied for asylum in Germany in October, 2017 totals 1,059, Deutsche Welle said last month. (turkeypurge.com)
