Jailed teacher’s kids with Down syndrome suffer huge in absence of him

M.O., a dismissed teacher and father of two kids with 92 and 98 percent disability ratings, has reportedly been jailed in an Antalya prison for almost 4 months over alleged links to the Gülen movement, which the government accuses of masterminding a coup attempt on July 15.

Speaking to Aktifhaber.com news portal, M.O.’s wife has said that their house was raided by a group of police officers on Sept 16, 2016 and her husband taken into custody over “secret” links to the movement.

“Police came to our house on Oct. 6 2016. They searched everything and seized computers, books. Because he got scared, my son with down had an eppie and then fainted. Officers took away my husband and left us in a miserable  situation,” the wife stated.

Since the coup attempt on July 15, 2016, Turkey has turned into a hub of people victimized by the purge carried out by Turkish government. The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and Turkey’s autocratic President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan accused the Gülen movement of masterminding the attempt and launched a widespread purge aimed at cleansing sympathizers of the movement from within state institutions, dehumanizing its popular figures and putting them in custody. However, the movement denies any involvement.

“After being kept in police custody for 9 days, he was arrested by a court and sent to the prison in Antalya. He is still there. I and my husband are teachers and we loved our country. We did not do anything wrong. I am now left alone with my disabled kids and they are suffering from major health problems. My kids are 9 and 4 years old. One of them has 92 percent disability, while the other has 98 percent. We have no income, no job and no insurance. Nothing,” O.M.’s wife added.

“NO one gives me a job. We are rejected by everybody. However, if I am given a job, I can’t leave my children alone.  The younger one is getting worse every day. He has eppie almost every day,” she stated. (turkeypurge.com) April 4, 2017
