Hayati Güngören, an advisor to Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu, who is the Turkey’s only communist mayor, was put in pretrial arrest on accusations of membership to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and of aiding and abetting the terror organization on Thursday.
Detained along with several other people as part of an investigation into the PKK in Tunceli’s Dersim district on August 22, Güngören was arrested after his first appearance before the court on Thursday.
Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu, who is the mayor of Ovacık district of Tunceli (Dersim), was the only mayor who was elected on the Turkish Communist Party (TKP) tickets. (turkeypurge.com)
