Turkey’s top court approves punishment for union activities during working hours

Turkey’s Constitutional Court (AYM) has rejected an individual application filed by a civil servant who received an administrative punishment for engaging in union activities during work hours, the Hürriyet daily reported on Thursday.

According to the report, the court did not evaluate the administrative punishment as a violation of the freedom to organize.

The civil servant, who received a “warning” punishment for attending activities of his union during the workday, applied to the AYM in 2014 after the judicial process was complete.

While the officer claimed the punishment was a violation of the freedom to organize, the court evaluated the application in terms of the right to meet and decided that the application was “unacceptable.” (turkishminute.com)
