Companies to be banned from public tenders in Turkey based on secret MİT reports

An amendment made to Turkey’s Public Tender Law based on a government decree (KHK) that went into effect last November bans individuals and companies from participating in public tenders based on intelligence reports that supposedly reveal their terror links, the Sözcü daily reported on Thursday.

According to the amendment made to government decree numbered 678 and approved on Wednesday night, individuals and companies about whom there are National Intelligence Organization (MİT) reports suggesting links to terrorist organizations will be barred from participating in public tenders.

MİT officials who draft these secret reports will be immune from criminal liability.

Government decrees, known as KHKs, are issued by the government under a state of emergency that was declared in the aftermath of a failed coup attempt in July 2016 and is still in effect. Government decrees, which are highly controversial, are not required to be approved by Parliament to enter into force. (turkishminute.com)
