M.Ö., a school counselor for 11 years, is now earning his living on animal husbandry as he was dismissed as part of a post-coup crackdown against dissidents.
The pictures, taken near an animal farm by M.Ö. went viral on social media as thousands of people who also lost their jobs after July 15 coup attempt sympathized with him with either congrats or blessings.
“After 11 years of working as a counselling teacher… The history shall record this,” M.Ö. commented on pics. He told Turkey Purge that he established the business along with his brother and breeds only sheep and goat at the farm.
TEACHER TURNED STREET VENDOR SELLING RICE
Another teacher, Mehtap Yörük, who was dismissed as part of a government purge against dissidents in the aftermath of the July 15 coup attempt, has now been selling rice and chickpea in order to earn her living, at a central spot in the eastern part of Diyarbakır.
Yörük’s picture, taken near her rice stall, went viral on social media platforms with a comment: “Mehtap Yörük, an Eğitimsen [an education union] member who was dismissed with a government decree, has started selling chickpea-rice on Diyarbakır’s Ofis Sanat Street.”
Turkey survived a military coup attempt on July 15 that killed over 240 people. Immediately after the putsch, the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government along with Turkey’s autocratic President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pinned the blame on the Gülen movement.
Meanwhile, the crackdown on the Kurdish media and political movement have also gained momentum after the failed coup, with tens of Kurdish mayors along with a number of MPs jailed as part of such operations.
Over 135,000 people, including thousands of teachers, have been purged due to their real or alleged connection to the movement or the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) since the coup attempt. (SCF with turkeypurge.com) March 28, 2017
